Re: Norton's Stadium

Wal-Mart alone pays for the school system each year..... I guess I am a little biased that I want the stadium to look nice... Where did you get the info that the city is in financial hardship... They need to start spending some of that money they have saved up.

Remember the story line about the flooding and re-doing and seperating the storm drains? That is just one that comes to mind right off. The elementary school didn't get what they asked for last year either.

Re: Norton's Stadium

Most things at the elementary school would be straightened out if the parents wouldn't have a fit over their kids being in the high school in 7th grade....They would eleviate the school being too crowded.

The storm drains are still in the process... They will probably never be completely fixed..... I get the point though, there are a lot more important things in the city needed than the stadium. But if we don't fix the stadium, it gets condemned and then what, we play all our home games at the college.

They are saving the funds for future projects?????? They have most of the money locked up in CD's, investments, etc.... A lot of people think the City is poor but trust me they have money.... I actually think I saw somewhere that per capita, the City of Norton is the 17th wealthiest city on the Commonwealth. I wish I would have saved that article....

With Shupe having been there, i'd thought it would of done been done.
Not being a smart aleck but Norton seems to be in some leadership problems and financial problems big time.
Maybe some need to start check and seeing where all their money is going.
Something definitely wrong.
And playoff time or late Oct. on would be a benefit for Burton to play it's games at the college.
I know we at Appy thanks to a certain coach can't host a game out side of the Region D championship, because our field dont' meet the criteria.
Odd how some hold resentment ain't it. And all because a certain coach, with an ego problem, lost on a muddy field.

Re: Norton's Stadium

I thought Appy's field looked good the second week of the season when we played. The most grass I have seen on that field in a long time..... It looked like it had been growing for a couple of months without being cut

HUH. No a coach from Parry McClure years ago.
He got on the committe that decided what fields could host what.

Man i like you but you got to get over the, I'm from Burton and everything is a cheap shot.
Some things are just what they are. Facts.
Nothing i stated, other than the city having financial problems, had anything to do with anything at Burton, other than the financial problems from the City.

I aplolgize, I thought you were referring to the "Mud Bowl" this is a thread about Burton, I just thought that was were you were going with it... Sorry.... I don't think everything is a cheap shot.... just the way you state some things leads me to think that, I just misread the statement.

Re: Norton's Stadium

What're they saving these funds up for?

I'd be for a downtown revitalization to rival what's going on in Wise (or at least what they're attempting). Hopefully that movie complex they'll be putting in will make downtown Norton more commercially attractive rather than pulling everything to that Mecca that's the new Wal-Mart shopping center.
Go Wahoos!
Go Mounties!
